I am a board-certified physician who trained in pediatrics at Virginia Tech and then in preventive medicine at the University of Kentucky, where I also served as chief resident. While at UK, I also obtained my Master's in Public Health with a concentration in environmental health. I completed my certification in integrative medicine with the University of Arizona's Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. I am an ambassador for the American College of Preventive Medicine, a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and I sit on the Virginia Mental Health Access Program (VMAP) education committee. I am also a member of CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and a passionate advocate for inclusion and diversity. I am a published author and researcher in the field, a public speaker, and a recipient of regional, national, and international awards.
As an epidemiologist, I have a deeper understanding of the medical literature and research, and a broader grasp of risk and harm reduction. This allows me to design and tailor the right treatment plan to your specific needs and values. I also educate parents and patients on these topics to ensure they are well-informed and active participants in clinical decision-making.
Why have I dedicated my career and made it my life's purpose to help those with ADHD and other mental health challenges?
Simply put, because of lived experience. I know firsthand the struggles that many people and their families go through. A doctor-patient relationship is about trust, taking the time to get to know the patient and their unique circumstances, and connecting with them on a deeper, more meaningful level.
In overcoming my own challenges and experiences, I have cultivated a deep passion for working with children, adolescents, and adults (and their families) so they, too, can overcome challenges, thrive, and find their balance in life. That's living life on an even keel.
